As a Tax Compliance Accountant, you’ll play a key role in assessing and mitigating risk for the organization as it relates to tax compliance. You’ll work closely with the Accounting and Finance teams, as well as cross-departmentally to shape how we approach tax compliance helping ensure our work is not only smart, but clear, relevant, and actionable.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of regulatory compliance, operational execution, and partnership with internal and external stakeholders, brings strong judgment to complex problems, and wants to contribute to work that shapes real-world decisions in the energy industry.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead or contribute to regulatory tax compliance measures

  • Translate complex ideas into clear, compelling outputs

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Accounting, Finance, HR, BizTech, and others

  • Apply research, analysis, or insight to real market challenges

  • Shape and refine messaging, frameworks, or recommendations

  • Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution

  • Contribute to a culture of clarity, curiosity, and continuous improvement

Maintain expertise in the following tax areas:

o State and Local Tax (SALT)

o Sales and Use Tax

o Business Personal Property Tax

o Canadian GST/HST and RST Tax

o Federal and State Income Tax

o Canadian Income Tax (Treaty and T2 Returns)

o Canadian Transfer Pricing

o R&D Tax Credits

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant tax regulations

  • Enjoy coordinating directly with internal and external stakeholders, such as our tax CPA firm

  • Understand what licenses and registrations are required for our business

  • Are extremely detail oriented and organized

  • Can assess potential gaps in the current tax reporting structure, including identifying potential liabilities and taking actionable steps to mitigate those risks

  • Have experience filing tax returns, assessing penalty notices, making tax payments, and generally communicating and dealing with the IRS and various state and local tax authorities

And even better if you:

  • Have experience working with or around utilities, energy, consulting, research, or adjacent fields

  • Have experience at a private-equity backed portfolio company

  • Understand the tax needs of an LLC with a complex entity structure

  • Have led or been involved in software implementations

  • Worked with Avalara, Vertex, or other similar SALT software

  • Experience with NetSuite, Salesforce, and other similar ERPs and contract software

  • Can support due diligence and integration activities for acquisitions as needed

  • Are flexible to assist the Accounting team with ad hoc projects as they relate to tax and compliance matters

Experience and Skills to Qualify Include: (These are must haves unless specified otherwise)

  • 5+ years of experience in a tax or compliance field

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Tax, Accounting, Finance or other related field

The budgeted salary for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 USD + annual bonus.

Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

This role will be remote with minimal to no travel requirements.
